THERE were thrills, spills and burning bikes on the streets of Wanganui on Sunday as Taranaki motorcycle racers turned up the heat.

It's a Boxing Day tradition -- the annual motorcycling party that has bubbled around the streets of Wanganui every year since 1951, and it attracted about 10,000 enthusiasts on Sunday. The mostly leather-clad fans jostled to get a view of the kerbside action and they weren't disappointed, with some of the closest racing and mechanical carnage seen there in many years.
