Swim Veteran Finally Wins Flannagan Cup

KEITH MAWSON had for 20 years been trying to win the Flannagan Cup open water swim. Yesterday, the prominent New Plymouth businessman finally got his hands around the winner's trophy.

The 43-year-old -- swimming in the event around the inner harbour of Ngamotu Beach for the fifth time -- stepped out of the water in one hour 12 minutes 23 seconds, 2min20sec ahead of runner-up Mark Goodwin (New Plymouth). Kim Taunga, of Christchurch, was a further .04sec back in third and the first woman home in the handicap event.
