IN RESPONSE to the letter from D. Mills (August 20), woodsmoke contains particles so small that, when inhaled, can cross the lung lining and enter into the bloodstream. They are a major source of air pollution in wintertime, especially where many people use woodheaters for home heating.
Studies have linked smoke to a number of health problems, including respiratory illnesses (asthma and bronchitis) and cardiovascular disease. In addition, the chemical components of some particles have been shown to cause cancer.See the full content of this document
