GRANDPARENTS got some undeserved bad press last week. A British survey claims to prove that leaving the kids with their grandfather, or mother, for long periods may not be as good an idea for working parents as sending them to a reputable day-care centre. Some of the older folks' ideas on children rearing are, apparently, too out of date for the modern generation.
There may be some truth in this, times are changing and new generations have different ideas about things like discipline, as the anti-smacking debate indicates. In general however, the problem in New Zealand is more likely to be grandparents spoiling the kids, rather than beating them.See the full content of this document
