Finnish Pensions Double Hedge Fund Allocations

HELSINKI, Finland (HedgeWorld.com) - Of the 124.3 billion euro ($182.1 billion) managed by Finland's pension and pension-related funds, 7.5 billion euro, representing 5.1% of assets, was invested in hedge funds as of the end of September, according to data from The Finnish Pension Alliance, an industry body.

In absolute terms, these institutions, which include public sector funds and pension insurance companies, have in effect more than doubled their allocations to hedge funds since the beginning of the year, when total assets amounted to 114.5 billion euro. At that time just 3.6 billion euro, or 3% of assets, was invested in hedge funds, according to the alliance. At the end of 2004, these institutions invested a total of just 800 million euro, or 0.6% of total assets, in hedge funds.
