NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com) Hedge funds showed decent overall gains in June and outperformed equities both for the month and for the first half of 2005, according to Standard & Poor's. The S&P Hedge Fund Index gained 0.90% during June, bringing its total return for the first half of 2005 to 0.13%, which, while meager, is better than the S&P 500 stock index, which fell 0.01% during June to wind up with a negative 1.7% six-month return.

Judge: Offender has `High Risk'

A STRATFORD chef who sexually abused a girl in her own home had a high risk of reoffending, Judge Louis Bidois said in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday. Eric John Barriball (51) was jailed for 4 1/2 years after earlier admitting masturbating in front of the girl in Stratford on November 7, and having unlawful sexual connection with her on November 27.
