Selective Long/Short Funds Launch in Canada
TORONTO (HedgeWorld.com) - "Selective" fundamental stock picking and measured allocations of long and short positions are the features of three new funds offered by a new Canadian hedge fund manager. The funds offered by Selective Asset Management Inc. center on fundamentals of North American securities and economic trends that determine whether long or short positions should sway future performance.
Its official name is Section 203(b)(3)-2 of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, as amended, and amended sections 203(b)(3)-1, 203A-3, 204-2, 205-3, 206(4)-2 and 222-2 of the Investment Advisers Act, and Form ADV - but you can just call it "The New Rule and the Amendments," or just "The Rule." Sec Charges Lauer with Contempt Over Asset Freeze Order
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (HedgeWorld.com) - Ann Vitunac, chief U.S. magistrate judge in the southern district of Florida, ordered Michael Lauer to show cause why he should not be held in contempt of court. The Securities and Exchange Commission requested this order in connection with Mr. Lauer's alleged violations of a preliminary injunction issued by that court in July 2003.

SIXTY-FOUR bright hopes for the future sailing skyward ended 113 years of history as Mangatoki School rang its bell for the last time at the weekend. A large crowd of well-wishers braved a chilly South Taranaki breeze to watch balloons soar aloft in the final farewell to Mangatoki's 64-pupil school on Saturday.
Couple Hurt in Campervan Crash with 4wd
A MAN and a woman from New Plymouth were injured in a head-on collision in the Awakino Gorge on Friday evening. The pair were travelling in a campervan which was in collision with an oncoming four-wheel-drive vehicle on a corner north of the Awakino Tunnel on State Highway 3 just after 6.30pm.

NAOMI McKEAN is spending her summer holiday among the gravestones, old bridges and crumbling buildings of central and eastern Taranaki. With two years of her Law, history and English degree at Victoria University behind her, she will spend the next two months back in her home province researching the heritage structures of the district for the Stratford District Council.
